Eyjafjöll, blood of the glacier

In March, 2010, lava flows close to 200 metres high shot from a crack at the edge of the glacier Eyjafjallajökull. Never had Iceland so well deserved its nickname “land of ice and fire.” A few weeks later, the eruption would only intensify. A huge plume of ash rose into the sky, bringing European air traffic to a virtual halt.
